I would give this to ICON to make a Derelict. J
ust make this roadworthy and safe, remove all the rust underneath, etc... and then drive it as-is.
K-car rat rod!

I feel like anyone with k-car nostalgia never had to drive one. I had to drive my buddy's Reliant for a week as he borrowed my car to go on a trip. That week was enough.

I did. I got the giggles so bad I accidentally rinsed my nasal passages with vodka and Kahlua...

Dammit. The novelty itself isn’t enough I guess.

This was also nearly 20 years ago and the thing was frightening in modern traffic.

Full body swap onto a modern chassis, perhaps. Imagine a fwd compact car but with heaps more apathy and extra slow. You don't want that.

An LS swap will fix that. Or perhaps a motorbike engine or two if you want to be more interesting...

Aw man don’t hate on the K-car. We had some variant of one for many years. They weren’t anything special, but they did the job. But that was the appeal, at least to me, they never tried to punch above their weight class in the generic k-car trim. Now the other variants, maybe, but not the basic K-car/Aries. ;).

That sounds like a perfectly sane idea :). It would make for an entertaining drive.

Can you tell me honestly that you would go and spend actual money to drive a k -car around? Even 20 years ago me buddy only bought a k-car because it was cheap and had been babied by some old guy so it was clean and complete.

Not in this day and age, no, but in their original point in history, sure. Like I said, we had one variant for many years growing up, and my sister was given the sky blue Aries as here first car. Then I got to drive it a bunch in the winter and it was an absolute blast. Skinny tires, FWD and light. I took my drivers test in that car too. I think it was an ‘89, and by then it was TBI so it ran all year without any issues, it was dead simple to work on, and fit 5 relatively comfortably. I sure wouldn’t want to be in a wreck in one, but I can say the same for some of the modern cars too.
One of these as a restomod hot rod would be an absolute blast. There’s so much room under the hood to add power adders and it would be so absurd.
Now all that being said... I wouldn’t pay icon money for one under any circumstance.
